Few Things Left Unsaid

My theme for this year's A to Z Challenge is A Reader's Take, where everyday I will be picking out a novel title corresponding to that day's letter and write my post based on it. To make it more challenging, I have decided to write a serial story. The novel I have selected for today is 'Few Things Left Unsaid'.

Leave Me Never

Chapter 6

(Read the previous chapter here)

Shruthi saw Kayra leaving and her guilt knew no bound. She so wished she could go and hug her best friend and say her it will be fine. She wanted to tell her that she didn't mean it when she had called her a lying b***h. She knew Kayra was telling the truth and she wanted to tell her that she believed her words. How could she have let their friendship die? She still remembered the happy moments they had spent together. Being neighbors, they had always looked out for each other, until now, when Shruthi had refused to help Kayra. Did Kayra understand that it was her helplessness or did she think her friend was heartless? There was no way to find out, now that Kayra was leaving.

Shruthi quickly composed a text to her brother, informing about Kayra’s departure to Bangalore. She felt uneasy doing that. But what choice did she have? First, to find out about what had happened and then having to choose her brother over Kayra and stand by his side as his ally! It felt absurd. She knew she was doing wrong by covering up the truth. But she couldn't abandon him either, knowing how much their mother loved him. The woman had always loved him more than her. 'My Son' she used to say proudly and leave Shruthi deprived of her love and attention most of the times. And the poor woman was now paying for it by fighting the battle with life. No, Shruthi didn't wish it upon her. She, in fact, wished she could ease her mother's sufferings. Finding out Sameer's truth would only make matters worse for her. Shruthi sighed. She really had no other way out of this mess. There was so much she wanted to say but in the end, she decided to leave them unsaid.

To be continued...
