It Happens For A Reason

My theme for this year's A to Z Challenge is A Reader's Take, where everyday I will be picking out a novel title corresponding to that day's letter and write my post based on it. To make it more challenging, I have decided to write a serial story. The novel I have selected for today is 'It Happens For A Reason'

Leave Me Never

Chapter 9

(Read the previous chapter here)

Everything that happens in your life, it happens for a reason. Ayaan could feel the truth in those words loud and clear. He had left India and settled in Singapore 7 years ago. It was hurt that had made him leave and it was to escape from this very hurt that he had drowned himself in work. There was no place for distractions. He had had enough. His day started with work and ended with it. His dedication had paid off and now ‘SN Industries’ was one of the top companies in the Asian continent and was on its way to achieve world wide popularity. Ayaan’s dad, for once, was proud of him and was making it a point to spend some time with him. Ayaan tried not to dwell too much on the fact that all these time was spent discussing business.

Ayaan looked at his Rolex watch. It was past midnight. He had once again lost track of time, excited that he was in completing a project. He closed his laptop and stretched out his hands, flexing them to ease the tiredness. He picked up his cell phone, which was on silent mode most of the times he worked, and sighed as he found 12 messages and 7 missed calls. He didn't have to check to see who they were from; he just knew. He grabbed his car keys and started walking towards the parking lot. He liked this routine; coming early and leaving late. There was no one around at this time and he didn’t have to plaster a smile on his face all the time. He got in his car and sped away, his mind buzzing with different thoughts.

15 minutes of drive and he was home. He shook of his thoughts, especially the one which was trying to gain his attention and walked towards the door. He re-arranged his expressions and rang the door bell. He could hear the footsteps hurrying towards the door and as the latch was opened, a smile started forming on his face. “You are home” Lucy threw her arms around him and kissed him deeply. He could feel his smile widen at her enthusiasm. “I thought you had forgot there is a place called home and someone in there, who will be waiting for you” she said as they walked in. As he heard her chatter happily, the racing thoughts took a backseat in his mind but there was one face that absolutely refused to fade, no matter how hard he tried!

To be continued...

About today's novel: 'It Happens For A Reason' is a novel by Preeti Shenoy. When Vipasha, Vee to friends, eighteen and single, makes the decision to have her baby, she does more than give up her promising modeling career. She ends up cutting ties with her family and with Ankush, the man she thought she was in love with. Then out of blue, Ankush comes back into her life. But can a decision that was taken at 18 - more in the throes of lust than love - be the basis of a lifelong relationship? Is there a future for Ankush and Vee?

  14. It is understandable that Ayaan took refuge in his work. But where did Lucy come from? Is she is girlfriend? Wife? How does he get away with such hours then? If she is indeed his partner, I feel sorry for her. Neither does she have his heart, nor his time. Eager for the next one.
